Creme Brûlée

Our global search to find the best ones

We spend a lot of our time travelling to great places and staying in nice hotels courtesy of our customers (thank you). One thing that we are passionate about is creme brûlée. We have had some superb ones, average ones, and some that were a disgrace to the name.

Freys Hotel - Stockholm

This is almost as good as it gets. Beautiful crispy crust, delightful custard, nice consistency, superb taste. The only thing that let this one down was the 'noise' of the accompanying berries.

The Church - Sandviken

Oh dear oh dear - this was just awful. The top was thin, the custard was watery. Disgraceful effort.

This was excellent. Lovely taste, smooth creamy texture, crisp top. This finished off a superb meal in high style.

Bilboa - Spain

This one flattered to deceive. It looked great but the 'extras' (also known as 'noise') should have sounded the alarm bells. The custard was too soft overall.

Barcelona - Palermo Restaurant

This was a great example: beautifully cooked, crisp topping, tasty custard. It was really good value too - so much so that we had another drink in celebration.

Mercure Hotel - Paris CDG

Very dodgy. This was served up at lunch time in the hotel. Totally insipid and tasteless. The raspberries were the best part of this. Disgraceful effort.

Paris

This was something that the chef obviously threw together at the last minute. He should have thrown it in the bin. The top was like concrete and the custard was like the filler that painters and decorators use. Never has a 'creme brûlée' driven us to the bar quicker.

Budapest

This one looked the part and more importantly tasted the part. A nice crunchy top with full bodied custard that melted in the mouth.

Stockholm

This was a nice creme brulee. A crisp topping with a delicious thick custard underneath which melted in the mouth. Bravo you Swedes ! Have a word with your trendy mates down the road (see previous review) and show them how to make a proper one.

Stockholm

This was a strange creme brûlée. It was served in a long canoe shaped dish and although it looked appealing it had no discernible taste (of anything). The waiter asked "did you enjoy it?"…. our eyes met and nothing further had to be said.

Lisbon

This one arrived unordered - and I am glad it did. It was delicious. It was only when I had finished it that I was made aware that the waiter had delivered it to the wrong table - and that it was the last one that they had. Sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time. I did feel a bit sorry for the person that ordered it and was going to apologise to them. However, the waiter had already made his excuses to them that "he was sorry but they were clean out of them".
